Region

The region surrounding Gabian forms the edge of the Haut-Languedoc Regional Nature Park within easy reach of the coast and the Hérault and Orb Valleys. As such it provides an excellent base for exploring this beautiful area of southern France with its medieval towns and miles of golden sandy beaches within a 25 to 40-minute drive of the house. Or you can go swimming inland at the reservoir at the Barrage de Olivette, or in the River Orb at Roquebrun where you can also go kayaking.

Only a fifteen-minute drive away and you are in the beautiful, medieval walled town of Pézenas, the birthplace of Molière. This town is full of history, cultural activities, art exhibitions and has a fabulous market on Saturdays. There are excellent restaurants, cafés and wonderful artisan shops in the narrow winding passages around the old town. Throughout the summer on Friday evenings from 8pm until midnight Pézenas hosts 'Les Estivales' where all the shops stay open late, local merchants sell their wine in the streets accompanied by live music.

Food lovers are spoilt for choice with the many excellent restaurants in the villages surrounding Gabian.

If you fancy a day out other than the beach, there are many charming towns and attractions to visit including Béziers, the Canal du Midi, Carcasonne, Lagrasse, Montpellier, Nimes, Roquebrun, Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert and Sète.

There is plenty of information on the local beaches, cultural and leisure activities in the region in the house. Guests will also receive a comprehensive information pack with recommendations on things to do in advance of their stay.
